Welcome to Week Two of the #loveofflatlayschallenge
SYMMETRY & PATTERNS
Are you ready for Week Two? I’m just a tiny bit excited about this theme! Who doesn’t love all things orderly? Or perhaps it’s just me, probably because I lack it in real life (orderly and children, yeah right!).
This type of flatlay can take a little more time to plan and tweak in order to get it looking just the way you envision.
Composition and symmetry go hand-in-hand, carefully consider the frame and the space between each object. The rule of thirds is a really good place to start if you’re a little hesitant; place your main components on an invisible 3x3 grid and work on things from there.
A pattern is described as an arrangement of lines or shapes, especially a design in which the same shape is repeated at regular intervals over a surface. Patterns occur naturally all around us, it’s just that we often don’t notice because we are so accustomed to seeing them. Take a little time to look around, try to see things at a different angle and see what patterns you notice. This is a really fun exercise for understanding where patterns lie and as a result, how to use them as a basis for your flatlays.
Attempt to push those creative boundaries and think outside the box, but most importantly - have some fun!
I look forward to seing what you come up with over the next week - happy hashtagging! #loveofflatlayschallenge
